İSTANBUL (İHA) - Consumer prices in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, fell 1.13% on the month in June, compared with a 0.64% decline in May, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, or ITO, said Thursday.

The producer price index fell 0.18% on the month in June, the ITO said.

On the year, inflation in Istanbul increased 11.21% in June, compared with an increase of 5.70% in June 2009, the ITO said. The producer price index in June also rose 9.44% on the year, it added.

Although the ITO calculates its data in a different way from the official Turkish Statistics Institute, or TUIK, the chamber's data are considered a good indicator of the national trend, as Istanbul is the country's financial capital.

In a June 22 central bank survey, the average year-end national inflation rate forecast was 8.01%. Monthly inflation expectations for June were pegged at 0.12%, the survey said.

TUIK is due to publish June national inflation data July 5.
