- Turkey March-May Jobless Rate Falls To 12.0%
ISTANBUL (IHA) - Turkey's unemployment rate fell to 12.0% in the March-to-May period, down from 13.7% between February and April, the Turkish Statistics Institute said Thursday.
The jobless rate was 14.9% between March and May of 2009.
The number of people in employment totaled 22.501 million in the three months to May, while those out of work numbered 3.071 million.
Employment excluding agriculture rose an annual 1.139 million in the three months to May, while the number of jobs in farming rose 664,000.
Excluding farming, the jobless rate fell to 14.9% between March and May, from 18.2% the comparable period a year earlier.
In 2009, the number of unemployed totaled 3.47 million.
