İSTANBUL (İHA) - The Turkish central bank's official reserve assets fell to $76.823 billion in May from $77.418 billion in April, the bank said on its website Tuesday.

Of that amount, foreign-exchange assets totaled $70.709 billion as of May 31, gold reserves were $4.520 billion, the International Monetary Fund reserve position was $166 million, and special drawing rights reserves amounted to $1.428 billion.

The central bank's reserves are important for covering foreign-currency debt repayments and the current account deficit.

A central bank survey of June 22 showed that market participants expect the current account deficit to total $31.053 billion in 2010.
