İSTANBUL (İHA) - Turkey's central bank said Tuesday that interest rates may need to be held at current levels for a while.

In the summary of the minutes of its June rate-setting meeting, the bank said core inflation indicators will remain below inflation-target levels and in line with medium-term targets.

It added that the outlook for inflation was more positive than forecast in April's inflation report because of lower unprocessed food prices and easing commodity prices.

In view of these developments, the bank's monetary policy committee confirmed that interest rates may need to be held at current levels for a period and may be kept low over the long term, it said.

July 17, the central bank left its key overnight borrowing rate at 6.5% and its overnight lending rate at 9%, in line with general market expectations.
