TURKISH PM EXPECTS RECORD 1Q GDP GROWTH FIGURE
29.06.2010 15:14
İSTANBUL (İHA) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that gross domestic product growth data for the first quarter, to be released Wednesday, are expected to break a new record.

Turkey has become the economy that has emerged from the global economic crisis the fastest, Erdogan said during a speech in parliament.

"God willing, we will set a new record with the growth figures that will be announced tomorrow," he said.

Turkish GDP rose 6% on the year in the fourth quarter of 2009 after a 2.9% contraction in the third quarter. Turkish GDP declined 4.7% in 2009.

Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said earlier in June that the economy may grow 10%-14% in the first quarter of this year.
